Design Santa Fe 2011: September 30th & October 1st

events

event description & schedule

Santa Fe Interior Designers Present (SFIDP) is pleased to announce its seventh annual Design Santa Fe 2011, a series of events showcasing the best in design innovations, trends, and products, held in the city of Santa Fe September 30 and October 1.

Open to both design professionals and the general public, Design Santa Fe 2011 embraces the theme “Change Makers,” which examines the role of design not only as an aesthetic imperative in our homes and workplaces but also as a force for social change.

Far from being a frivolity, good design goes beyond creating visually pleasing environments to address questions of vital importance in today’s world: How can design best be used as an agent for social change? How can excellence in design and construction be made accessible to all, regardless of income or socioeconomic status? What are the universal aspects of good design that allow us to transcend national and cultural barriers to become a unified global community?

Santa Fe was designated in 2005 as one of UNESCO’s Creative Cities in recognition of its thriving design community. The city blends its unique multicultural architecture and design aesthetic with a distinctly contemporary approach to artistic expression, making it an ideal venue for a celebration of design and an exploration of its potential.

Design Santa Fe 2011’s events will include:

Design Dialogue and Luncheon

A panel discussion catering to professional designers and architects moderated by Susan S. Szenasy, editor-in-chief of Metropolis magazine. Also participating are award-winning architect Cameron Sinclair, cofounder of Architecture for Humanity, and Susan Lyons, a noted textile designer specializing in sustainable technologies and materials. The three-hour discussion will be followed by a catered luncheon.

Home Tour

A self-guided home and garden tour open to the general public showcasing the best in interior and exterior design as well as innovative products and design solutions.

Design Crawl

A citywide party in which retail and wholesale design businesses around town welcome the public to sample food and liquid refreshments while browsing an array of products and meeting with guest artists and artisans.

A portion of all proceeds from Design Santa Fe 2011 will be donated to the St. Elizabeth Shelter in Santa Fe and San Francisco–based Architecture for Humanity, a nonprofit design services firm. To date, SFIDP has contributed $24,000 to the Santa Fe Youth Shelters, and members of SFIDP also volunteered their time to design the interiors of the facility’s living units.

MISSION:
Design Santa Fe is produced each year by Santa Fe Interior Designers Present (SFIDP), a not-for-profit group of New Mexico licensed designers, design professionals, small business owners, and design students.
We have four goals:
• Stimulate the design community through the Design Dialogue.
• Demonstrate the diversity of good interior design with the Home Tour.
• Showcase local design related businesses with the Design Crawl.
• Contribute to the community by donating proceeds from the event to a local charity.
